Grand National Tournament Qualification Rankings
NOTE TO MEMBERSHIP FOR 2024-2025
Due to the devastating flooding in our region's Western counties as a result of Hurricane Helene, the CFL of Charlotte Board has voted to suspend the points race qualification for this school year only. In its place, the league will hold a one-day qualifier tournament in the Spring semester to determine our representatives at NCFL Grand Nationals.
Q: Why are we making this change?
A: We have member schools throughout Asheville and its surrounding communities, as well as a cluster of schools in Rutherford County. All of these schools have been impacted by flooding to various degrees, and their ability to participate in speech & debate activities in the Fall semester has and will be hindered. As the majority of our qualifying season tournaments take place in October, November, and December, keeping the points race would negatively impact those schools' ability to qualify.
It is the belief of the Board that holding one qualifying tournament in the Spring (similar to what is already done for NSDA Districts) is the most equitable solution that gives all students in our league an equal opportunity to qualify.
